Lawrence: 5 Months

Image
Lawrence, Five months old! This has been such a fun month. You are full of smiles and laughter, especially for Lincoln. You are very friendly and will smile for just about anyone - and will let them hold you, too. You started daycare two weeks ago and are doing very well! One morning when I dropped you off, Deborah told me, "I just love him! He talks and talks and talks." Your hair is getting soooo long. It's kind of your "signature" thing. I took you in for a weight check and you're already up to 15 lbs., 13 oz. You are very vocal. You love to talk and carry on a "conversation" with anyone who will talk to you. You continue to roll from your stomach to your back, but now you're more interested in scooting around on your belly. You can turn yourself in circles and scoot from one end of your blanket to the other, especially if your ball or another toy is there. You lift your belly off the gr...

First Day of School 2017 Lincoln: preK Lawrence: infant room at daycare Megan: 10th year of teaching

Yesterday we went walking at Dillon Nature Center. At various times, Lincoln would run ahead or veer onto a side path to explore, walking or running on until I would call to him to pause and wait for me to catch up. As I looked back at this picture, I realized that it was yet another preview of what is to come. My boys will grow older, get bigger, venture farther and farther away from my arms. Yes , they'll come back, but all too soon they will run out again to new adventures, returning less and less often. This is what we do, mamas and daddies. We prepare our babies to leave us. And one day, ready or not, they will. Yesterday was not that day. Not yet. We have some years still. But yesterday was an important reminder that my job is to hold them loosely, gently, to help them figure out who they are, to prepare them to make their own good choices, to teach them the importance of being kind to others, to make their own way in this world. Someday, they get to keep going. My hope ...

Lawrence: 4 Months

Image
Lawrence, At four months, you are such a sweet baby. We love each day with you. You love to be on your play mat, grabbing the toys and looking in the mirror. You make lots of different noises and are starting to squeal more when you get excited. You put everything you can in your mouth and especially like to bite daddy's fingers. Your eyes are starting to lighten, and your hair is getting wavy, thick, and even longer. We're debating whether we should cut it or not. You weigh about 13 lbs., 11 oz. and are 25 3/4" long. You're starting to be more social and smile more easily. More and more often you want to be held or at least talked to, not laid down alone. You are incredibly observant and are often content to just sit with someone and watch everything that's going on around you. You take everything in as it happens, usually with a pretty serious expression and big, big eyes. This has made it a little harder to get ...

Little fishy

Image
Lincoln's becoming quite the little fishy! The day after we got back from Arkansas, we spent a day at Grammy and Grampy's. Their neighbors have a swimming pool, so we spent a while over there. Lincoln was pretty bold in the pool - jumping in to daddy and swimming/floating around all by himself!
