The Kohlmans

After we were finished at the fish hatchery, we drove over to Leadville to check out the town. We went outside of town to check out abandoned mining areas and hiked around a little bit.

We spent one of our days at the Leadville Fish Hatchery with mom and dad. Lincoln loved seeing the "hundreds!" of fish in the tanks. We went on a short hike that took lots of coaxing to get Lincoln around. It was so cool to see how they brought a species of fish back from near extinction. I would have liked more reading material, but it was a cool place anyway.

We spent some of our time just hanging out with each other at the cabin. The adult to child ratio was awesome! We probably won't have any more family vacations quite this good. The cabin we stayed at was very close to Mt. Elbert Forebay Lake, just a ten minute walk or so. The view from our cabin was of Mt. Elbert (above and below) and Mt. Massive. Our family climbed Mt. Elbert the last time we were in Colorado, and the rest of the Klaassens climbed Mt. Massive this time. There was a lot of reading, a lot of playing Paw Patrol, and a little bit of BINGO. One day after hiking, Brad, Megan, Jamie, Lincoln, and I went into Buena Vista for lunch. We hung out for a while and got ice cream at an amazing spot! I had Samoan Cookie ice cream. Lincoln ate his whole cone!

The second day of our trip, we woke up and headed to the Great Sand Dunes National Park. We've been there before a couple times, but not with all our extras. Since Hannah was driving down from Washington, we didn't meet her until we got to the cabin later this day. Dad rented some sand sleds from a place right outside the park. They were a lot of fun, but it took a little bit to get the hang of it and not get dumped off at the end of the ride! Lincoln absolutely loved trekking around the dunes. We were there for a couple of hours, and he loved every minute. He hiked around almost the whole time. It wasn't until we were heading back to the car (which he didn't really want to do) that he started to complain and ask to be carried.
