Day 2 Update

Lincoln's acting like his normal self. He is eating fairly well and sleeping quite a bit. When he's awake, he is wide-eyed and squirmy like usual.

Now the medical information... His CRP level is the lab result of concern right now - the only concerning lab he has. When we were admitted, it was 1.5. Normal levels should be less than 1, so this shows that he definitely has an infection of some sort. Yesterday afternoon it was 7. This morning's lab showed that it is now down to 4, which means his body and the antivirals he is on are fighting the infection - great news!

We are still waiting on some cultures to grow to tell us whether or not Lincoln has a bacterial or viral infection. This will then determine what meds we need to do and how long our stay will be. Brad and I appreciate all your prayers and messages of support.

Lincoln Jesse Kohlman: Birth Story

I am starting to write this post on Monday morning. It might take a while. While my entire pregnancy was blissfully uneventful, a fact for which I am eternally grateful, Lincoln's birth was anything but. This is going to be a difficult story to record (I'm already tearing up with this first paragraph), but I think it will start to help me heal emotionally. Warning: this post is not censored. It includes pretty much everything I can remember, just so you know in advance.  At 37 weeks, Dr. Fullerton sent me in for a measurement ultrasound. I had been measuring small since about 30 weeks, so we just wanted to check on the due date. Surprisingly, Baby K was measuring in the 89th percentile. This was a concern because, let's face it, my body is not exactly built for child-bearing. These hips are narrow.
