Frozen

We've dug our way out of Thursday and Friday's snow, just in time for round two to come tonight/tomorrow/Tuesday. While we were in the lull between storms yesterday, I got together with a couple of friends to make some freezer meals.

I think this picture makes it pretty obvious why I love these girls! It was great to spend a whole day with them.

This isn't even all the muffins we made!

The final haul. We each ended up with:
  • about 3 1/2 dozen muffins (bran, peanut butter chocolate chip, and cranberry chocolate chip)
  • two 8x8s of baked ziti
  • two 8x8s of cheesy potatoes
  • two 8x8s of BBQ meatballs
  • one crock pot pepper steak recipe
  • one crock pot honey chicken recipe
We all agreed that we are not those special people who would do this alone on a monthly basis. We are planning to make it a periodic event, though. I was worn out at the end of the day, but it was definitely worth it to have a bunch of meals ready for whenever Baby K decides to make his appearance!

Nursery

Baby's room is almost done. There are just a few details left to finish up (some of which you don't get to see quite yet), just a few things left to get, just a few things to wash...

Here's the current state of the room from the doorway:

Brad just finished painting the dresser and replacing the handles with knobs on Monday. The dresser will double as a changing table, once we get a changing pad. It's amazingly large - we've fit blankets, crib sheets, towels, changing pad covers, swaddle blankets, burp cloths, newborn clothes, 0-3 month clothes, cloth diapers (about half of what we hope to have eventually, but the rest will fit once we're out of disposables), a couple packages of newborn disposable diapers, some wipes, and a few random things that I don't know where else to put in there. I'm so glad my parents were willing to pass on this piece of furniture (along with a number of others in our house)! The 8x10 frame will eventually go on the wall with an ABC/baby name print, possibly along with some other to be determined items. The clock has a CD player for lullaby time.

The diaper bag in the crib is packed with what (I think) we'll need for the hospital. I'm sure I've over packed, but oh well. I'm excited for my mom to finish the quilt she's making so I can post a picture of that, too.

I just realized looking at this picture that we don't really have any small church clothes for baby. I guess we'll have to think about that when we make our "get whatever else we think we still need before baby comes" shopping trip.

The basket on the bottom shelf is full of board books. Who needs toys when you can read with mommy and daddy?! ;)

The doctor's office was closed today, so we'll reschedule our appointment and sonogram for next week, hopefully on the same day. Since we're missing the 36-week appointment, we're down to just three before baby's official due date!

Showered...

This week we've been showered with love and baby goodies by Brad's family and my co-workers. We are feeling like we're just about set, and we know we're very blessed by all the support.

This was Sunday in Cottonwood Falls. Leah & Barb planned a great shower. My favorite part was the game we played where everyone guessed baby's name, birthday, birth time, weight, and length. I love seeing what people think, especially about the name. Feel free to comment on this post to join in the game!

My school shower was Tuesday. We had lots of yummy food; it was great to get to hang out with lots of my teacher friends outside of the normal school day.

The nursery is pretty much ready to go, other than a few things we still want to pick up before baby makes his appearance. I'll take and post some pictures of the room soon.

Tomorrow we have a snow day... but we were both planning to take the day off since we have an ultrasound at 8 and a doctor's appointment at 9. We're hoping the roads are clear enough for us to make it (but if not, we'll be smart, stay home, write lots of thank you notes, and reschedule the appointments).

progress

We've made a little progress since last week.

On Friday when I got home from work the crib parts had come and Brad had the whole thing put together. (He did not have the crib skirt on, though. We added it later.) Then on Sunday he cleaned the garbage disposal and dishwasher - I told him I think he's nesting.

After I made a quadruple batch of laundry detergent (I just used up all the ingredients I had on hand so we don't have worry about that for a while) on Sunday, I washed all baby's newborn and 0-3 clothes, blankets, sheets, diapers, etc... Now we just need a dresser to put them in (and I'm trying really hard not to nag anyone about that). There is a three-day weekend coming right up!

We still have a little ways to go on the cloth diaper stash, but we now have two different brands. Is it lame that this is exciting to me?!

Tomorrow we meet with daycare. We have two showers in the next week (yes, we have been completely spoiled), and an ultrasound a week from tomorrow. I realized yesterday that this is my last week of pregnancy without a doctor's appointment. It's a little unreal how close we're getting!

34 weeks

34 weeks doesn't seem that close to the end of pregnancy, until I add that this means my due date is only 6 weeks away.

I honestly don't feel like I'm getting any bigger - just more uncomfortable. Baby K definitely is; most movements are pretty forceful, like he just doesn't have enough room to move around.

The pregnancy aches have kicked in full force, letting me know without a doubt that my body's getting ready to have a baby. (But not for another six weeks!) I have no idea if baby has turned or not. My next doctor's appointment is tomorrow. We'll find out if she's going to have us go in for another ultrasound before the due date - insurance companies can be picky about these things. I can't think of any other random statements about pregnancy to make here...

Yes, I did finally get a hair cut. :)

Brad picked out the fabric and helped me figure out the pattern, then mom and I whipped up this little dinosaur blanket. I love, love, love how it turned out.

We may (fingers crossed) have found a daycare! We're just waiting to hear back for sure that she has a spot in August she'll reserve for us. This is super exciting because we weren't sure who we'd find for a reasonable price who's willing to do cloth. We kind of had a few big deal-breakers. The bonus is that her husband works for the school district, so Brad knows him.

I had a dream the other night that my brother (hi, Daniel!) had purchased a grizzly bear, lion, tiger, and human-sized koala bear. They were delivered to the farm, and he just left them there (out in the yard between the house and the shed, for those of you who know the place) to go back to his house. I was trying to convince him that he couldn't just buy wild animals and leave them for mom and dad to take care of. But he was convinced that the lion and the tiger would be best friends if he just let them get to know each other on their own terms.

And lest you think that since I am a little OCD and slightly Type-A, everything is ready for baby... here's the current state of the nursery.

I really thought that, by this point, we'd have everything ready to go. But the crib side replacements haven't come in yet (the originals were scratched), the dresser is still unpainted (but is now unstained!), no clothes have been washed, and so on... I honestly haven't been too concerned with getting the room all put together. I have a feeling that, once it's done, time will drag on. At least now we have some things to do while we wait.

Fun with Photoshop

I've been waiting for prints to go on sale at Walgreen's so I can order these:

Several months ago, we chose this verse and quotation for Baby K's nursery. One of the reasons Brad got me Photoshop Elements for Christmas was so I could make these (Microsoft Word just wasn't cutting it). I had so much fun making them. I can't wait to see what they look like framed and on the wall!

This morning in church, someone was asking how I'm doing. I mentioned that this week will be #34. It doesn't sound like I'm that far along, but then I added that this means we're only about 6 weeks away from the due date. And that sounds really, really soon. We have a lot left to do, but I know the time will pretty much fly by.

In other life news...

I passed my licensing test on Friday. Now I just have to wait for the official results to be mailed to me, the state, and ESU, so I can apply for my new endorsement. I'm pretty excited. I'm also excited that it will be a long, long time before I have to study for much of anything again.

We are staying home for the Super Bowl. I'm finally feeling "normal" after almost two weeks of awful congestion (I even stayed home from school one day), so it'll be a nice quiet evening at home - and probably an early bed time for me.
